In-Person Tax Preparation Steps
Step One: Ready to Get Started
Contact the office for an appointment to drop off your documents. You can call us at 618-641-1739 or email us. We are at capacity for what we can complete prior to April 15th. We are happy to file an extension and get you filed after April 15th.
Step Two: Gather Information
Gather your tax documents for your drop-off appointment. If this is your first time filing with Penny Pinch Tax, bring a copy of last year’s taxes as well. Click here for a list of common items needed.
Step Three: Office Drop-Off
At your appointment, we’ll sit down with you, confirm the information needed, and examine your tax documents. An engagement letter will be available for you to review and sign.
Step Four: Deposit
At the drop-off appointment, we’ll ask for a deposit. This amount will be applied to the final cost of your tax preparation. Deposits vary based on the complexity of your tax situation.
Step Five: Tax Pro Assigned
You’ll be matched with a tax preparer, and a follow-up appointment will be scheduled.
Step Six: Tax Return Preparation Underway
While we prepare your tax return, keep an eye out for any emails or messages from us in case we need additional information or have questions.
Step Seven: Gearing Up for the Review Appointment
Prepare for your review appointment:
- Check TaxDome for your invoice amount.
- Ensure both parties are available to sign (for joint returns) or have a plan to complete the second signature.
- Write down any questions you may have.
Step Eight: At the Review Appointment
At this appointment:
- We’ll collect your payment.
- Your Tax Pro will walk you through the tax return, explaining how we arrived at the final numbers.
- We welcome and encourage any questions you have!
Step Nine: Sign the Return
You’ll sign a few documents that allow us to electronically file your tax return. For joint returns, both signatures are required before filing.
Step Ten: Filing – All Done!
Once the review is complete, the invoice is paid, and all signatures are collected, we will electronically file your tax return. We’ll notify you via email once we receive acknowledgements from the IRS and State(s). Please note, this may take up to 24 hours or longer, depending on IRS processing times.
